Marrocco's
Mixed Media on Canvas.
Established in 1969, the family-run Marrocco's ice cream and seafood restaurant on Hove seafront is a local institution. Of all my paintings this one is the most popular because so many people have memories of being taken there as a child. I created this by taking photographs of the existing building and then combined this with images of it in the 1980's. Peter Marrocco bought the original painting and it hangs in the entrance. He said it was special to him as it reminded him of the time when his father was running the place.
This relief art canvas was created by Georgina Smith in her studio in Brighton . Each artwork is built up of multiple layers of card, cut to create a 3D image, which is then drawn and painted. Her paintings centre on familiar buildings found in Brighton, with a focus on those that have a sense of faded seaside charm.
